Financial Literacy Month

Updated: Dec 20, 2023

April is an exciting month in our industry - Financial Literacy Month! This is a nationally acknowledged campaign aiming to foster and bolster the comprehension of financial matters among children and teens. For people of all ages, this is a great time to consider if you have embraced the practice in your own life. If you find the answer has room for improvement, talk with your spouse, reach out to your financial advisor; make understanding your financial situation part of your goals this month!

For many families, this presents a remarkable occasion to instruct and establish connections with their kids or grandkids, to help foster healthy practices in their life-long financial journey.

Recent statistics reveal that almost 74% of teenagers aspire to attain financial literacy, with an even higher 86% expressing their eagerness to grasp the intricacies of investment.

Every parent has wondered whether their child notices what they do when it comes to spending and managing money. You may be pleased to know that 75% of American teenagers consider their families as their most reliable source of financial enlightenment. Our youngest savers and investors are looking up to us for their financial tutelage.

It is never too late to begin an open and candid conversation about financial matters. By demonstrating your willingness to discuss what is often viewed as a "taboo" topic, you are also setting an example for your young learners on how to approach finances. Over time, they will develop the ability to perceive financial concerns and objectives with clarity and minimal undue stress.

Financial literacy month has proven to wield a sustained and constructive influence on our future investors. Children and teens who receive instruction in personal finance from an early age are more inclined to secure loans and grants for college at lower costs. Conversely, they are less inclined to rely on private loans or high-interest credit cards.

Should you decide to don the "instructor" hat this month, let us know! We are always delighted to contribute to the education and empowerment of our future generations.
